Some thoughts about hunting with the muzzleloader...a "primer" if you will!

Ian, I must have lucked out, my fist and only muzzle loader is a cheap CVA bolt action with the cap primers, it's very accurate and has never miss-fired. It's also never missed an animal and killed everyone with one shot, with the longest being 130yds. I do like shooting it but you can only get about 5 rounds through it before you have to run a brush down the barrel or else you can't get a sabbot pushed down it from the fouling I usually give it a washing after each session. Fun gun to shoot though.

You did get lucky....one of my hunting buddies has one like that. Mine? I tried different loads, backing off powder. Just was never satisfied. Turned it over to my Dad and he plugged a 9pt with it...but it was at 20 yards...love the Knight Rifle though

I've bought 2 of the cheapest CVA inlines on the market and have been very satisfied with them.  I shoot the Hornady .45 bullets in a sabot for the .50cal.  Pretty good groups.  Pyrodex pellets.  Muzzleloader has become my favorite hunt as well.  Especially if I'm in an area that the rut coincides with it.  I just recently started using a scope on my gun.  Before that it was always straight sights.  My wife is deadly with hers.

Mine isn't scoped either.  I figured I'd leave some sport in it. Especially since most shots are 100 yds or less.
