Okay here are some pix if my Earth Box in action.

When I bought it it came pre-planted with berry plants, I know that is cheating but, it was already late in the season so that is my excuse. I enjoyed berries for a couple of months but the damn squirrels caught on and I had to either build a screen over it or move on to something else.

I moved on to okra and bush beans. A miracle in action for sure you drop this rock hard BB in the ground and after a week up pops a plant. You get this funny feeling when you see them coming up out of the ground.

Two weeks of cloudy weather and rain kind of stunted their growth a little but when the sun finally came out these things took off. This picture is after I decided to remove three of the okra. I waited too long for that I planted too many plants these things are going to be huge.

Beans have fruit now but so far the okra is just getting bigger and bigger.

Thanks Ebb. this is so simple it's ridiculous, once a day you add about a gallon or so of water. When the fruit finally comes then I guess I will have some work to do. I am probably going to get at least one more of these things.

I was also thinking of planting one with flowers too just for more fun and to see what I get. There is definitely a lot of satisfaction in seeing things grow and happen right before your eyes. Yesterday I saw the beans and they were about 1/2 inch long, like overnight they are almost 2" long. It won't be long before I make my first harvest.

Those are some nice strawberries...I have three strawberry plants and was wondering what the heck was wrong with them the other day, the berries looked all wrong. The f'n squirrels got to 'em!!! They chewed 'em all up!

Those are some nice berries. Kept losing mine from the flower boxes on the back patio, but hadn't seen any squirrels around the neighborhood, so I figured it was just my kids beating me to 'em. Then the greens were gone the other day. Looked around a bit and found out who the culprits were...deer. Now if I can only catch them at it...

Well my first okra flower bloomed actually 2 of them and there are a bunch more coming on. I will try to get some pix. My beans have me worried though. I got a bunch of beans right off the bat but is seems that it is growing and flowers are blooming but no more beans are showing up. I guess the bees are falling down on the job here.

Well it is harvest time!! The first picture is my first okra. You can see it just below my thumb. There is another one off to the right, Actually both bloomed at the same time. You can see more bloom pods and the two flowers in the picture have already bloomed and will drop off revealing another new okra.

Here they are ready to pick I think. I am afraid to leave them on too long for fear of them getting all woody and tough. I will need to pick them over a couple of days or else I won’t have enough to make a meal but, there are about a dozen or so coming on so by the end of the week I should have enough for a meal.

The beans were a big disappointment. They were very stringy, I may have waited way too long on them I am not sure but I think I will do black eye peas next time. Also, the bean has stopped producing. The vine is still growing and it was putting out flowers but the flowers were not getting fertilized or something. Oh well, it is a learning experience.

Looks great man. I think you are waiting a bit too long on the okra too. Those suckers are gonna be tough. Best picked when they are the size of your middle finger. You may be ok tho!

Okay, well my okra is at least 9' tall now and I can barely reach them with my 6' ladder on the top rung. They have slowed down some though that is for sure and I think I am ready to cut them down now. They were producing a fruit every other day for a while and I have been eating a lot of okra for only 5 plants. I think I am going to plant an egg plant and a tomato this time. The wife says she will cook the egg plant for me. I was really surprised at how much okra those things produced and still are.
