Are you using the DSLR or P&S for your self pics while out on the water now?
Just curious.
I haven't messed around with it much but it seems that the Nikon might be a real pain to set up. Between wet & slimy hands and feeling that I MUST set up the tripod and not risk the camera fallling off a tackle bag or something, I talk myself out of using it and grab the ol' Canon G Deuce. The Canon, BTW, has been having issues with not wanting to power on sometimes even with a known good and charged battery.
Anyway, just curious.

Wekiva River

Well its been all most a week since I have been fishing and I was having withdrawls. The wind forcast was too much for open water so I decided to hit the Wekiva river. I live only a couple miles away. The wife's gear needed to be used so I loaded up her yak and tackle and away I went. Here is a scene from the river.

I put on a small rebel and caught this Bluegill.

Then I switched to plastic worm as I wanted something bigger. I caught this little guy,at least he was bigger than the bluegill.

It was a good little 4 hour trip. It was still windy but not as bad as the flats would have been and a whole lot cheeper than the drive over to the coast.

Hog Hunting Questions

A few questions, Nathan, IAN?

can you hunt hogs with pistols that have laser sights on them? specificly on private land but would like to know the public rule as well?

Can you hunt hogs on a feeder where a lantern has been affixed to see at night?

Morning Woodpecker

I walked out to the car this morning to head to work and immediately heard the distinct sound of a woodpecker. I looked up and there he sat on a limb with perfect morning light falling on his red head. Just happened to have the camera case in my hand and couldn't resist taking a few shots .

I finally had a good chance to shoot an osprey on Saturday with good lighting. I missed the shots of the bird diving on several occasions, but managed to pull out a few keepers otherwise. They are fun to shoot!

Tired of picking up brass? (product review)

my Dad was all excited about my birthday gift this year-which is unusual because they normally just give me a gift cert. -. anyway he comes over with this broom handle with the top wrapping up what looks like one one those toy horses little kids hop around on. I was like WTF??

I opened it up & my eyes lit up- I could see the potential right away!
The package says "NutWizard" & it was/is designed to pick up (in various sized baskets) from acorns to apples. Turns out a shooter ran across one of these devices at some show & told the company they'd work great to pick up used brass.

They do too! I used it the other day and picked up hundreds of spent cases 9mm to 308. (my kids loved to run all over and hook me up too )

if you reload & are allowed to pick up brass, you need this thing @ $45( extra small sized)

Anhinga's in Flight

Since the fishing stunk so bad yesterday around Homosassa, I finally just broke out the camera and had some fun. This was the first time I've shot birds in flight from the kayak...certainly adds another dimension to the difficulty factor. Aningha's aren't the pretties birds in the world, but their mannerisms make them good photo targets. They are also FAST in flight which provides a good challenge for getting sharp, in-focus shots. As usual, these were shot with the 70-300 VR.
